I have been interested in fish since my childhood. My long-term research goal is therefore to understand fish evolution in general. The particular focus of our lab is currently to uncover molecular mechanisms of adaptation of sensory receptors and hemoglobin genes. I have always been fascinated by the DNA and RNA molecules in free living organisms as a "record book of evolution". Recent advances in sequencing technology open us the world of genomics and transcriptomics to answer various evolutionary questions, as well as to understand more the biology of different groups of ray-finned fishes.
I did my postdoctoral stay in the group of Prof. Walter Salzburger in Basel, Switzerland. The priceless experience to become part of WalterLab for four years has mostly formed and influenced my current research activities.
